Below is a roundup of different and interesting website links that discuss Near Death Experiences pro and con. Some of the sites are religious in nature and others are scientific or first person reporting. Give or take what you like from each site and I highly recommend the first link "Near Death Experiences and the Afterlife" as the very best resource there is on the topic.
An intriguing thought is the different experiences that people have had during a near death experience where one person encounters heaven and the other sees a glimpse of hell. Religion and theology tells us of the existence of heaven, limbo, purgatory, and hell that a person could expect based on how you live your life. What is a very interesting point about some well known near death reports is how the actual experience of near death turned the persons life around from that of a Godless one to a life knowing that God loves them.
How do you explain in a logical manner how someone can go from being an atheist one day, has an accident or incident where that person has a near death experience, and from that day on believes in God or a higher power? Something very intense, emotional, and life changing happened to that person that was by all accounts clinically dead.
Can the experience of what some call heaven or hell during a near death experience change a persons life?
On the way home from a conference, Don Piper's car was crushed by a semi-truck that crossed into his lane. Medical personnel said he died instantly. While his body lay lifeless inside the ruins of his car, Piper experienced the glories of heaven, awed by its beauty and music.
90 minutes after the wreck, while a minister prayed for him, Piper miraculously returned to life on earth with only the memory of inexpressible heavenly bliss. His faith in God was severely tested as he faced an uncertain and grueling recovery. Now he'd like to share his life-changing story with you.

What is hell like, and how does one avoid an eternity of torment? Bill Wiese shares his unforgettable experience during which God allowed him to see and feel the agony people endure in hell.
Wiese's visit to the devil's lair lasted just twenty-three minutes, but he returned from this with vivid details etched in his memory. He records an accurate account of his experience in this book, presenting more than three hundred scriptures that verify the horrors he endured and observed.
There are some interesting documentaries on DVD video on the subject of Near Death Experience where you can learn from the people that lived through a NDE and hear and see in their own words how it felt, what they saw, and how it changed their life.
Catherine's body gave out after eight years of debilitating illness. John ran out of oxygen while scuba diving. Mary had serious complications during childbirth. Alena's tour bus flipped over, tossing her on the pavement. Alan's heart fluttered, then stopped during surgery . In each case, these men and women left their bodies. They watched themselves "die." They were drawn into a great white light, where they felt unconditional love and deep joy. They all "came back" - reluctantly.
Though their life experiences are quite different, their Near Death Experiences are remarkably similar. In Round Trip, you'll share powerful, first-hand recollections from five people whose lives have been profoundly changed. You'll also hear from a philosopher, a parapsychologist and a theologian, who will help you interpret these extraordinary events.
Round Trip sheds light on several timeless questions: What happens when we die? Does our spirit live on? Do we meet our deceased friends and relatives?
Is there really life after death? What happens when we die? Has anyone really returned from the dead to tell us what lies beyond? A Gallup poll discovered that eight million American adults have had near death experiences, roughly one in twenty. This has spawned a renewed interest in the afterlife reality. The medical profession calls the "delayed spontaneous return of intrinsic circulation after cardiac-pulmonary resuscitation, The Lazarus Phenomenon." In our presentation we investigate the reality if any, of life after death. This thought provoking film features moving interviews with experts from the scientific, medical and religious fields as well as graphic and compelling testimonies of people who say they actually experienced the afterlife and returned shaken and changed forever! If you are one of the millions worldwide who has ever wondered what lies beyond, then this film is a must see!
The Final Frontier is a documentary, which explains Near Death Experiences as an existing phenomenon from a scientific and Biblical perspective. The Final Frontier will make you think for a long time. No one returned from the grave to tell us the truth about life after death. Towards the ed of the twentieth century a phenomenon arose, in which people reported Near Death Experiences, otherwise known as NDE’s. Revived patients encountered some form of afterlife reality: heaven and hell.
This phenomenon of NDEs, in which revived patients report an extension of consciousness beyond clinical death, are not hallucinations, but a highly structured and organized phenomenon. NDE holds a message for mankind. Death is a reality and according to research and those who witnessed heaven and hell, we must think about our own lives. More and more scientific evidence tells us that life after death exists. Eventually we will all die and cross THE FINAL FRONTIER - heaven or hell - where we are going is a matter of choice.
In the following You Tube video we have the interesting case of Bradley Burroughs, blind from birth who claims to have been able to see clearly during his near death experience.
One of the most well known researchers on Near Death Experiences is Dr. Raymond Moody who has spent years studying and writing on the topic of NDE's.
M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia, 1976 Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Virginia, 1969 M.A. in philosophy from the University of Virginia, 1967 B.A. with Honors in philosophy from the University of Virginia, 1966
Dr. Raymond Moody is credited with coining the phrase “Near Death Experience” based on the work he did researching 150 people that claimed to have died and returned to life. Additionally, he is credited with the nine most common traits experienced when a person has had a near death experience. Not all of the subjects spoke of each item on the list but the consensus from his study was that people experienced from two to six of the following.
1. hearing sounds such as buzzing 2. a feeling of peace and painlessness 3. having an out-of-body experience 4. a feeling of traveling through a tunnel 5. a feeling of rising into the heavens 6. seeing people, often dead relatives 7. meeting a spiritual being such as God 8. seeing a review of one's life 9. feeling a reluctance to return to life
Dr. Moody has several books of interest on the subject of NDE. Life After Life was his best known book where he discusses the phenomenon from a clinical point of view without the religious undertones.
Dr. Raymond Moody discusses some of his latest work in this video on researching Near Death Experiences and Shared Death Experience in an interview with Paul Perry.
When it comes to experts on Near Death Experience there is only one criteria or qualifying degree to be an expert and that is to of had an actual Near Death Experience (NDE). In an NDE the person is clinically dead or honestly believes themselves to have been actually dead for a brief amount of time. It is in this brief period of time that the stories of near death are born. Some people call this widespread phenomenon a simple chemical reaction as parts of the brain are starved of oxygen and are shutting down. People that have lived through the experience call it a life changing event.
It would be fairly easy to brush NDE’s off as hogwash but how can so many people have the same or similar experience? Rising up out of their body, viewing from above, a sense of calm, no feeling of pain or suffering, meeting or sensing a higher being, and a need to express their experience.
Some people would like to lay claim that having a Near Death Experience is the result of years of religious brainwashing and yet there are people from all walks of life, religion, and non religious atheist that have had a NDE.
Father of five beautiful daughters. I'm a realist but a firm believer in God and I honestly and trully believe that he believes in me. Life is to unique for each individual to not be here for a special purpose.
